y2k poster
This was a poster I made for an assignment where I wanted to make a y2k styled poster for an art exhibition. The y2k aesthetic , started around 1997 and was fairly popular until 2004, but has had a bit of a resurface as of late. It encapsules designs that are somewhat cyber, Futuristic, abstract and is classified usually into a category of Retro-Futurism. I didn’t use any artist artwork except for the character, which is friend’s character I was given permission to use as the main center point of the design. My color palette is close to a square palette, using colors that are primary used in y2k aesthetics, using black and white, a lightened pastel green, purple, and pink that’s somewhat leaning to be more saturated then pastel. I made my design kind of look like a sticker sheet with the title “art exhibition” at the top designed to look more like the y2k logos That I’ve seen through research. Then made it look futuristic with the words “dream on” behind the character in the back as to help encompass the aesthetics ideals of thinking back in the past of how people thought the future would look like.
